Earth Issues

At Expedition Africa we work hard to ensure that the way we run our tours and  responsible travel programs has a positive impact  on the places we visit. We believe in pro-actively educating staff and travellers about  cultural and environmental issues and ensuring responsible behavior in everyday life. As individuals and a company we believe in contributing to broader societal goals and look beyond simply making a profit.

Expedition Africa has a written code that includes a guarantee of good working conditions, protecting the environment and supporting local charities.

Whenever possible Expedition Africa staff practice eco-friendly use of the purchase and disposable of produce and other perishables. Read about building your own worm farm and keyhole garden .  We try not purchase out of season imported produce and where feasible goods are bought from local vendors and communities. Clients are encouraged to decant bottled water from large bulk containers rather than purchase numerous small plastics.

Each of our safari vehicles is named after an endangered species or community project. Inside each vehicle, literature can be found on the project and guides are able to give passengers detailed information. A portion of our turnover from each tour is donated to the  project that is linked to the particular vehicle.

We encourage and facilitate the sale of volunteer tours by our agents.

We endorse the principals of Fair Trade in Tourism, which is about ensuring that the people, whose land, natural resources, labour, knowledge and culture are used for tourism activities, actually benefit from tourism.
